Jump into Fall with the Oregon State Fair, Salem, August 28 though September 7. The next big celebration is the Pendleton Round-Up, second full week of September. If you’re one of those lucky ones who have tickets and a room, there is no better way to celebrate the end of Summer and the beginning of Autumn. The Pendleton Chamber of Commerce (800-547-8911) is standing by to help out late comers, often finding them a room in one of the town people’s home. Going on its 99th year in 2009, this event grows more meaningful each year. Top cowboys and cowgirls and visitors from around-the-globe mix and mingle. And if you’re planning to be in Northeastern Oregon, check out the Hell’s Canyon Mule Days in Enterprise (www.hellscanyonmuledays.com ) - mid September, and the Wallowa Lake Festival of Music,Arts and Crafts - www.wallowalake.net -late September.
October brings more fun and a unique experience on the Eagle Cap Excursion Train out of Elgin. The Train announces a very special addition to its fall schedule. The Roaring 20s Dinner Train departs from Elgin October 3, at 4 p.m. This trip is all about marvelous 1920s cuisine, featuring fresh, locally grown ingredients, and prepared and served in style. And, it just happens to all take place while traveling by rail along the beautiful Grande Ronde and Wallowa Rivers in the friendly atmosphere that is typical and traditional in a railway experience.
