Flying fish, ferries, old town, Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, Art Museum, University area, the Space Needle and coffee, coffee, coffee. Seattle has it all, plus much more to make it a unique destination.
Enjoy spending several days here and you will find your dance card is filled with special things to do and see. Go early and witness the opening of Pike's Place Market with its famous flying fish (stay out of their way as the workers sell and ship the fresh catch of the day). The various stalls of the Market arcade range from beautiful produce to one of a kind art objects and flowers. It takes a couple hours at least to let it all soak in. Stop in at the Pike Place Bakery for a quick energy fix.
Seattle's downtown is walkable. Visit Old Town, or the waterfront (where you can sip coffee at the world's first Starbucks), or ride to the top of the Space Needle-the view, with Mount Rainier in the background and the Sound stretching out before you, will leave you breathless. The 90 second mono-rail ride to Seattle Center and the Space Needle departs right outside the Mayflower Park Hotel. The Music Project/Science Fiction Museum features Seattle's hometown hero JimiHendrix. Rock and roll fans will be in their element here. Easy access rain or shine.
Pioneer Square is where Seattle originated 150 years ago. Much of its spirit is retained. Great shopping, boutiques, art galleries, nightlife and international dining are all part of the Square scene. The Seattle Underground Tour has its starting point here as well. If the Mariners' are in town, go to a game.
Don't miss the waterfront. Steaming with activity, the starting point for the ferries, cruise ships and boat tours, this area is also home of the Seattle Aquarium. Consider visiting nearby Blake Island for an authentic Indian bake salmon dinner while you are exploring.
Seattle is a photographer's paradise with its mix of many architecturally important buildings, the greenery and the water add a splendid backdrop for any shutterbug's frame. Nature is as much a part of the scenery as the high rise buildings and all the sail boats on Puget Sound.
A great get-away, and certainly worthy of your attention. If it's your first time visit, you will repeat it often. If you visit often, you already know what a fabulous destination it is. Amtrak, Seattle International Airport and the I-5 corridor make getting there easy and affordable.
