Well, a month has passed with the new travelsavvynews.com format, and judging from the response, it seems pretty successful, almost doubling the number of readers. We work with it constantly and make changes often, so you will note that there is now a BLOG! I never thought I'd see that day, but keeping current makes it almost a necessity. Times of instant communication have rendered me even more tied to my computer than ever before. However, I'm still resisting acquiring an iPod!
This month has some eclectic articles, from many varied destinations. Howard Hian, one of my favorite contributors takes on Columbia, Missouri, a city he has just visited, in Across the Country. The Santa Fe Convention Bureau describes all the happenings in this great area for many months to come. Read all about it in the Only In America section. Plugged In gives you several new ideas for a variety, and first time contributor Charles Denight writes about his recent weekend trip to Sumpter, Oregon, on the Oregon Highlights page. This trip is definitely off the beaten track, and worth a look if you happen to be in northeastern Oregon.
Suffice it to say, my visit to Elko, Nevada, was one of my high points in travel this year. Why? Because it is so real, so down to earth, and, I guess,. reminiscent of where I grew up. If you want to connect with the West, I suggest Elko as a major starting place. Read more in Featured

As time progresses travelsavvynews.com will be bringing you details of the State of Oregon's 150th birthday celebration which begins February 14,2009 and lasts until October 31, 2009. All counties in the state are planning events, and visitors will have a passport, so as they travel from place to place they can get it officially stamped, to keep as a great souvenir. Many more fun activities are planned. Also on tap is the upcoming Centennial celebration of Pendleton Woolen Mills in 2009, and the 2010 100th Year celebration of the world famous Pendleton Round-Up which will kick off its events with a fabulous New Year's Party the eve of December 31, 2009. Everyone is getting into the act. Hamley & Co. will create a special Centennial saddle, the Pendleton Woolen Mills will weave a collector's blanket for that event. Keep tuned, I will bring it all to you as it unfolds.
It is my hope you are enjoying the “new” travelsavvynews.com even more than you did the original. I would love to hear your comments nay or aye....several of your ideas have already been implemented.
Happy travels on new and unexplored trails. October 1st, 2008
