HAVE A "WHALE OF A HOLIDAY" IN MONTEREY

/Nature-loving families seeking something fresh and exciting – but most importantly affordable – to share this holiday season are invited to a 'Whale of a Holiday' in Monterey – the best place on California's coast to watch the annual migration of hundreds of Gray Whales.

Hotel Pacific's 'Whale of a Holiday' package includes one night in a deluxe guest room, a thrilling three-hour whale watching expedition with Monterey Bay Whale Watch (www.gowhales.com), complimentary Marine Mammal Guide, delicious continental breakfast each morning, warming afternoon tea service, plus lots of other amenities.

Whale watchers set sail at 10am from Monterey Bay's Fisherman's Wharf on the 70-foot Sea Wolf II /vessel captained by Marine Biologist Nancy Black or Biologist Richard Ternullo. A seasoned marine biologist is also on deck to help spot migrating Gray Whales in addition to frolicking dolphins and porpoise, sea otters, sea lions and harbor seals which are typically seen on every trip. Bring plenty of warm layers and comfy shoes as well as binoculars, a camera and bagged lunch (light refreshments are served in the galley). Sea-sickness medication is recommended for those who tend to get queasy; pregnant women are not allowed.

This package – available December 14, 2008 through January 31, 2009 (excluding December 31) – starts at just $220 Sunday through Thursday; $240 Friday and/or Saturday. Taxes and gratuities are not included. 'Whale of a Holiday' also offers a 'whale of a savings' of $58, if the items are purchased separately.

Did you know? The entire Gray Whale population migrates past the Monterey coastline every winter and spring. These whales have one of the longest animal migrations known, traveling over 12,000 miles from their summer feeding grounds in the Bering Sea to their winter breeding grounds in Baja California and back again. Killer Whales have recently been spotted along the Monterey Coast as well!
